Sinsa Veneers: Retreating Awkward Teeth into Natural, Translucent Ones

Sometimes a patient has had veneer or all-ceramic crown treatment,

and the result turns out quite awkward.

There are various reasons for this awkwardness.

First, the tooth color may not look natural,

or the shape may differ a great deal from a natural tooth,

or there may be no sense of translucency at all,

and for these various reasons,

we sometimes carry out Sinsa veneer retreatment,

and why the result turns out natural when it's done here at Dream Dental Clinic —

that's what I'd like to talk about.

Honestly, this was a case where I thought at first it might just be a temporary tooth.

Could something actually made of ceramic

really look this awkward??

It was a case that made me think exactly that.

The gum and the ceramic didn't match at all,

the tooth color was far too dark,

and the shape of the teeth... it's hard to even find the words.

There was no sense of natural tooth translucency at all.

Summarizing the problems,

1. The teeth were already quite large, yet designed to look even bigger

- From the very start of treatment, the diagnosis and wax-up process should have been used to design the teeth to look smaller.

2. No dimensionality in the teeth whatsoever

3. The teeth were large and made dark, creating an aesthetic problem.

4. A design prone to causing gum inflammation

5. No translucency in the teeth

There were simply too many problems like this.

Diagnosis matters most of all, and it seems this step was either skipped

or perhaps there wasn't quite enough understanding of Sinsa veneers.

Once we removed the existing ceramic,

we could see that the tooth had already been reduced far too much.

It wasn't a veneer,

it turned out to have been treated as an all-ceramic crown.

Doing our best given the current state,

we designed the teeth to look natural without appearing large, and finished the Sinsa veneer treatment,

and as you can see,

we finished the Sinsa veneer treatment while faithfully preserving the feel of a natural tooth.

The shape, dimensionality, color, and translucency of a tooth are all very important elements.

To create this kind of feel,

a fairly long and demanding process has to follow.

The process of shaping teeth like this takes about 1 to 2 weeks,

so let me show you a short clip of it. (This is a different case from the one above.)

As the ceramic is built up and fired, then built up and fired again,

the shape is also refined very meticulously,

and the shape is built up using a variety of techniques.

Only veneers and all-ceramic crowns made this way

can truly be called a fine piece of work.

This Sinsa veneer is on a completely different level from the kind made in a single day.

This process is what produces a result on such a different level.
