A Veneer Treatment Case for Teeth Previously Treated With Resin

It's quite a predicament when a front tooth chips from a fall or an impact.

The immediate problem, of course, is how it looks.

Depending on how badly it's broken, it can also hurt.

It hurts and looks bad.. in a way, it becomes an emergency situation.

The way to quickly treat a chipped front tooth like this is

resin.

You can think of resin as a kind of plastic.

Using resin that's close to the tooth color allows for quick treatment.

The problem is that resin changes color over time.

For molars, some discoloration doesn't really matter,

but for front teeth, discoloration of the treatment material can be a serious issue.

On top of that, its translucency differs from that of natural teeth,

so in short, it often looks noticeable.

This patient had received resin treatment long ago for a fractured front tooth.

The resin treatment covered quite a wide area.

Not only that, the overall color of the teeth was also dark,

and the tooth next to the front tooth was much too small compared to the size of the front tooth,

so the proportions weren't good either.

Veneer treatment is exactly the method that can resolve all of these various problems at once.

Going through the process in the link above, a wax-up like this is done.

In this process, exactly how much of the tooth will be reduced during treatment

is already decided with great precision as part of the overall plan.

Tooth reduction is carried out using a microscope,

in fine detail.

Once all the resin was removed, we could see that the tooth had actually fractured quite extensively.

For the teeth other than the front tooth,

as shown in the photo, almost no reduction was done.

If the front tooth hadn't been broken, it would probably have had a similarly small amount of reduction.

As I always emphasize,

just because it's veneer treatment doesn't mean it has to look awkward and artificial.

Even with this little reduction,

you can achieve a feel just like natural teeth.

Of course, that process is quite difficult.

Compared to making veneers that have that "xylitol gum" kind of look,

a veneer treatment process that achieves this natural-tooth look

takes an amount of effort and time that's beyond imagination.
