Front Teeth Veneer Treatment for Severely Flared Teeth
Hello. I am Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
When the teeth protrude severely,
we recommend orthodontic treatment whenever possible.
But sometimes there are cases where it just isn't an option.
Cases where the periodontal condition is too poor for orthodontic treatment,
or where the patient is older, so moving the teeth through orthodontic treatment
would take too long or is expected to cause other side effects.
In older patients, during orthodontic treatment,
black triangles often form at the gums of the front teeth,
so even though orthodontic treatment was done for an aesthetic purpose,
the result is sometimes unsatisfactory.
There are also cases where treatment needs to be done as quickly as possible for time reasons.
Even in these cases, I still recommend taking the time to get proper treatment whenever possible.
Front teeth veneers are generally not suitable
for treating teeth that are flared or protruding.
That's because, for a protruding tooth to be brought in with veneers,
the amount of reduction needed increases accordingly.
That said, if veneers are used in a limited way,
various effects can still be achieved in a short amount of time.
I'd like to show you a limited case like that.
Looking only from the front, it might just look like a case of somewhat uneven alignment.
The teeth overlap each other,
and their shapes are also uneven.
Viewed from the side, you can see that the teeth protrude quite noticeably.
In a case like this, it's practically impossible to bring the teeth themselves inward using veneers.
The patient also said it would be enough if just the flaring at the tips could be softened.
Since the patient is a bit older, after orthodontic treatment, the gums between the teeth can recede,
and black triangles could form, in which case veneer treatment might be needed again.
We diagnosed the current condition of the teeth,
checked how much reduction would be needed,
analyzed what shape the teeth would end up in after treatment,
and then proceeded with treatment.
This kind of precise diagnostic process
is called a wax-up precision diagnosis.

Tooth reduction was carried out according to the plan.
To reduce the flaring of the front teeth,
slightly more reduction was done
than the amount typically needed for basic front teeth veneer treatment,
while the other teeth had almost no reduction.
To achieve both goals — tooth health and aesthetics —
as much effort as possible has to be made.
The front teeth veneer treatment has been completed.
As the teeth became even,
you can see that both the color and shape of the teeth improved considerably.
In particular, the naturalness of the teeth matters most.
By giving the tooth shape enough of a three-dimensional feel
and adding translucency to the teeth,
we expressed teeth that look young, natural, and beautiful.
Viewed from the side,
you can see that the sense of protrusion has been noticeably reduced.
Comparing before and after,
you can clearly feel the difference.
Rather than the position of the teeth themselves changing,
the gum side of the teeth comes out slightly,
while the tips of the teeth go inward,
creating the sense that the teeth have been rotated,
and that's how the protruding teeth are resolved using front teeth veneers.
