Minimal-Reduction Front Veneers for a Protruding Mouth and Buck Teeth

Treating protruding teeth is

one of the most challenging parts of cosmetic dental treatment.

It depends on what's causing the protrusion,

but since a good number of cases stem from skeletal issues,

a range of treatments, including orthodontics and surgery, are often needed.

In severe cases, orthodontic treatment often has to be combined with surgery.

If it isn't severe, orthodontics alone can be enough.

If the protrusion isn't severe and the shape of the teeth also isn't ideal,

front veneers can be used to treat it.

Cases of protruding or buck teeth that can be treated with veneers like this

are fairly limited,

so whether it's possible can only be determined after a diagnosis.

First, looking at a few things about the state of the front teeth,

there are gaps between the teeth, and the teeth are quite small.

The shape of each tooth varies, so even with orthodontics,

veneers would still be needed to make the shape look attractive.

The problem is that, seen from the side, the teeth protrude.

When there's protrusion like this, no-prep veneers aren't possible.

The three conditions for no-prep veneers are

that the teeth be small, the alignment be good, and there be no protrusion,

and the third condition isn't met here.

First, the current proportions of the teeth are measured.

Because there are gaps,

it's hard to precisely check the proportions between teeth,

but it's still necessary to decide how to distribute the spacing.

The gumline is also markedly asymmetrical,

so correcting the gumline is needed as well.

This is called gum contouring.

It's harmless to the health of the teeth and gums, so there's no need to worry.

The gumline needs to be reshaped,

and a plan is made for how to improve the degree of protrusion when viewed from the side.

The amount of tooth reduction is estimated, and in relation to this,

the patient is informed beforehand of roughly how much tooth structure will be removed.
