Gapped Teeth Veneer Treatment: A Cheongdam Dental Clinic Case

As people age, gaps often appear between the front teeth.

Teeth don't stay fixed in their current position;

they keep shifting as a person ages.

Most people find their teeth tilting forward and overlapping,

but in some people, the teeth gradually develop gaps instead.

When this happens, the first treatment that usually comes to mind

is orthodontics. It's probably the best treatment option.

The problem is that, depending on age, not everyone is a candidate for orthodontics,

and occlusal issues with the lower teeth can also make orthodontics difficult.

In such cases, the second option to consider is filling the gap with resin.

You can think of resin as a tooth-colored, plastic-like material.

It has the advantage of being a simple, relatively low-cost treatment,

but it discolors over time and the material is somewhat weak.

Finally, there are front-tooth veneers.

This is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses ceramic to change the shape of the tooth.

Only one front tooth had a veneer, and the patient came to Cheongdam Dream Dental Clinic with it broken.

Gaps had formed between the teeth, and those areas had been treated with resin.

Looking at the position of the lower teeth, orthodontic treatment wasn't an easy option,

so resin treatment had been done,

but the teeth appeared to have gapped even further again,

and the resin itself was in poor condition, causing aesthetic problems.

When the proportions between the teeth are the issue like this,

a great deal of thought needs to go into

how to bring those proportions into better balance.

So we proceed with a diagnosis aimed at improving the proportions.

While aligning the symmetry of the teeth,

we need to find a way to also improve the proportions between them,

and the amount of tooth reduction that follows from that must be decided first.

We run a simulation in advance of how much the tooth should be reduced.

Then wax is applied on top to preview the shape of the tooth.

Using a plaster model of the teeth in this way,

the process of previewing the current state of the teeth, the amount of reduction, and the final result

is called a wax-up precision diagnosis.

According to the plan, we proceed with tooth reduction for the front-tooth veneers.

Since the teeth were severely discolored,

a slight adjustment from the original plan was necessary.

Covering the discoloration required an adequate thickness of ceramic in the veneer.

This is originally a case that should be treated with all-ceramic crowns,

but we decided to treat it with veneers instead, to reduce the amount of tooth reduction.

The treatment has been completed.

The color and shape of the teeth have improved considerably.

The symmetry is now aligned, and the proportions between the teeth have improved as well.

The lateral incisor next to the front tooth, which had been quite large, is now a normal size too.

The proportions between teeth are the starting point of dental aesthetics.

Teeth can only look beautiful once the proportions are right.
