A Gangnam Clinic Known for Veneers: Treating a Protruding Front Tooth

Hello.

I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic, a Gangnam clinic known for veneers, located near Apgujeong Station.

There are truly many different reasons for getting veneer treatment.

The most common reason is a problem with the shape and color of the teeth.

There are also quite a few congenital cases.

People get veneers when the shape of their teeth differs a lot from a typical shape,

or when the tooth color is too dark.

Acquired causes include a chipped tooth,

or discoloration that occurs after root canal treatment for a severe cavity,

and many people get veneers for reasons like these too.

There are also cases where the alignment of the teeth, meaning the bite line, is poor,

and patients sometimes want veneer treatment for this reason as well.

At this point, there's something you really need to think through.

Whether to go with orthodontic treatment or with veneers

is a decision that needs to be made by considering the treatment process and the potential side effects.

Here, only one of the front teeth protrudes.

There's also some chipping on the tooth.

A case like this, with mildly poor alignment, is a somewhat ambiguous one.

If the alignment were worse, orthodontic treatment would obviously be the right call.

If orthodontic treatment were done in this situation, resin treatment on the front teeth would then be needed afterward,

and resin treatment discolors over time and, given its position, can also come off easily.

Since the shape of the two front teeth isn't pretty, there's also a chance veneers would still be needed after orthodontic treatment.

The drawback of orthodontic treatment is that it takes a long time.

Even for simple orthodontic treatment, you have to expect at least 6 to 12 months.

If treated with veneers instead,

the one protruding tooth needs to be reduced,

but the other tooth can be done without any reduction.

That's actually the condition that makes veneers worth considering here.

If more reduction were needed, orthodontic treatment would be the only option.

There's also the advantage that the whole treatment can be finished within two weeks.

But regardless, even if only one tooth is being reduced,

it's still a reduction, and once it's done, it can't be undone. That's a drawback.

On top of that, there's gum asymmetry,

so during the veneer treatment, an effort has to be made to bring the gums as close to symmetrical as possible.

Because of the time constraint, we decided on veneer treatment.

My job was to minimize the side effects that come with that,

and to do my best to make the teeth as beautiful as possible, compared to what orthodontic treatment would achieve.

We carried out gum contouring together with tooth reduction on the one tooth.

Because the difference in gum height was quite large,

gum contouring alone couldn't achieve complete symmetry.

Forcing complete symmetry would only cause gum inflammation.

When gum contouring is done, temporary teeth must always be made

so the reshaped gums can heal into the desired shape.

In no-prep veneer cases, temporary teeth are even more important.

How your teeth will change, what they'll feel like, and what size they'll be

can be known in advance.

With reduction, there's little change from the current tooth position,

but with no-prep, compared to the current tooth position,

the tooth inevitably sticks out further,

so the feel needs to be checked in advance.

After about 1-2 weeks, the temporary teeth are removed again, and now the veneers are tried in one by one.

Before bonding them like this,

we try the teeth in place, talk it over with the patient,

and make any adjustments that are needed.

The alignment became even,

the shape of the teeth improved considerably as well,

and the color became brighter.

The veneers are made while fully bringing out the translucent feel of the teeth.

These days, you often see veneers done with an opaque, dull, artificial-looking feel,

and most of the time, it's the one-day method.

You can think of it as a limitation of the one-day method.

One of the biggest characteristics of our clinic here, well known in Gangnam for veneers,

and something the one-day method simply cannot match,

is exactly this: creating a beautiful result with the feel of natural teeth.

Looking at the photo above, you can see that the difference in gum height between the two front teeth has been reduced considerably.

Complete height symmetry couldn't be achieved through gum contouring alone,

but the fine detail of the ceramic makes the gums look visually symmetrical.

One of the extra details added at our Gangnam clinic known for veneers

is adding a bit of yellow staining near the gum line of the tooth.

Through this yellow staining,

finishing the tooth so it looks slightly shorter

makes the gum asymmetry look visually improved.

By bringing out even these fine details,

the veneers are finished to look natural and beautiful.
