Veneer Treatment for Chipped, Worn Front Teeth

By Park Jonguk, DDS, MS — board-certified specialist in conservative dentistry Published

Hello, I am Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.

Tooth aging shows up in a variety of ways.

Speaking in terms of the front teeth,

first, the teeth gradually get shorter due to wear, and

the tips become sharp or flat, so the feel of a natural tooth gradually fades.

In some cases, the tips of the teeth chip away little by little.

As the front surface of the tooth also wears down, teeth that once had a translucent, bright feel

gradually become dull and yellow.

That's because the transparent enamel layer on the outside of the tooth is being lost.

This kind of aging process is natural, but

when these changes happen abruptly,

there are various causes, such as bite problems, eating habits, and acid reflux.

Doing front-tooth veneer treatment without addressing these underlying causes

makes the veneer prone to fracturing later on.

This shows changes to the front teeth caused by a bite problem.

Excessive contact with the lower teeth caused the tips to fracture and wear down, and

the tooth color had also changed considerably with age.

First, we addressed the bite problem in the back teeth, and

then carried out treatment to aesthetically improve the front teeth.

Beyond this wear caused by the bite,

the alignment was also poor, so

correcting the alignment had to be done at the same time.

The diagram shows roughly the kind of change that was planned.

It would be ideal to bring the protruding teeth inward, but

doing so would require far too much tooth reduction, so

we planned to bring the recessed tooth slightly outward and pull the protruding front tooth minutely inward,

and carried out the diagnosis based on that plan.

Please refer to the link below for the diagnostic process.

Through the diagnostic process,

we determine how much of the tooth to reduce,

and establish a precise, thorough treatment plan before proceeding.

Only the chipped areas and the protruding areas of the teeth are reduced.

The canine and the tooth next to it required almost no reduction, while

the protruding front tooth needed a standard amount of veneer reduction.

The veneer treatment has been completed.

The biggest hallmark of our Dream Dental Clinic is

natural beauty.

Because it's done by hand, the amount of tooth reduction is less than with the one-day method, but

we give that thin piece of ceramic all the complex, varied characteristics of a natural tooth.

The translucency at the tip of the tooth, which can be seen as a hallmark of a youthful tooth, and

the natural texture of the tooth surface are both expressed, and

the tooth's individual character is clearly expressed through its sense of dimension.

Not just the front teeth, but the neighboring teeth and canine as well, all preserve the feel of a natural tooth as much as possible, while

still coming out looking beautiful.

A tooth isn't a single uniform color overall — it contains a variety of shades in different areas, and

that kind of naturalness is expressed in fine detail.

Depending on the viewing angle and the lighting,

the teeth can shine beautifully, or reflect light in a natural way.

Gum health is protected naturally along with this as well.

Natural beauty

is the pinnacle of the front-tooth veneer aesthetic that Dream Dental Clinic pursues.
