Veneer Redo Treatment Case for Discolored Teeth

I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic, skilled in veneer redo treatment.

Tooth discoloration can happen for various reasons.

The most common cause is root canal treatment. Teeth that have had root canal treatment often gradually darken in color.

When discoloration occurs after root canal treatment, a method called internal bleaching of the non-vital tooth can restore the tooth color.

Since this method doesn't resolve every case,

a crown or veneer treatment is sometimes needed.

Some people have naturally dark tooth color from birth.

Taking certain antibiotics incorrectly in childhood can also cause discoloration.

Teeth can also become discolored after trauma.

There are also cases where discoloration is present but the nerve itself has no problem,

and in these cases, veneers are used.

The issue is that veneers use fairly thin ceramic,

so they may not be very effective at blocking discoloration.

But treating with a crown means removing too much tooth structure,

so an effective treatment that removes less tooth structure is needed.

One front tooth had already been treated with a veneer.

The biggest problem was that the two sides weren't symmetrical, which caused an esthetic issue.

Besides the front tooth, the lateral incisor next to it had been treated with resin,

and since there was also space behind the canine,

the lateral incisor had become quite large, yet still had many esthetic problems.

The tooth with the veneer had discolored due to trauma,

and although it had been treated with a veneer, the esthetic result was unsatisfactory.

Along with the veneer redo, the old resin was also retreated,

and using veneers, we decided to close all the spaces and turn the teeth into an esthetically beautiful result.

Wax is used to predict in advance the proportions that will result once all the spaces are closed.

With space present, a veneer

makes the tooth larger, so how the space is distributed must be simulated in advance.

After confirming that this resolves the spacing issue while keeping attractive proportions,

the removal and tooth preparation for the veneer redo proceed.

Veneer removal should be done in a way that minimizes damage to the tooth,

and generally, if the veneer ceramic is ground off to remove it,

it can damage the tooth,

so removal using a laser is best.

The removal for the veneer redo, along with the preparation of the other tooth for its own veneer, has been completed.

The discoloration of the tooth that had the veneer was quite severe,

so while covering the dark color,

matching the translucency and tooth color with the other teeth was very important.

This part can be considered a fairly delicate process.

Between the previously discolored tooth and the other teeth,

no difference could be found —

the case was finished well.

Without the lateral incisor becoming larger,

all the spaces were closed.

You can see that the gum rose naturally around the closed space, finishing naturally.

By adjusting the size of the canine,

the space was controlled,

and various techniques make the tooth size appear smaller.

You can see that translucency and yellow staining details were added to the tooth.
