Veneer Redo: Turning Awkward Into Natural — 5 Real Cases

Today I'd like to introduce a variety of cases where patients found a new smile through a veneer redo.

Case 1: Dull, Yellow Veneers Turned Bright and Natural

Before Treatment

Photo 1 is the initial examination photo.

The patient had old veneers and all-ceramic crowns.

The biggest problem was that the color was far too dull and awkward-looking.

It was noticeably more yellow than a natural tooth.

Case 2: Front Teeth That Were Too Large, Made Natural Through Proportion Adjustment

Before Treatment

The patient had veneers on 6 front teeth, but they looked far too awkward and large.

The biggest problem was that there was no size difference between the central incisors and the adjacent teeth.

There should be a size difference between the central incisors and the teeth beside them, but all 4 front teeth were far too large.

In natural teeth, the central incisors are the largest, the lateral incisors are a bit smaller, and the canines follow yet another proportion.

But with these veneers, all 4 front teeth were nearly the same size.

The color was also far too dull.

It was opaque and looked lifeless.

After Treatment

By redoing just 4 of the teeth, the size and proportions were carefully adjusted.

The central incisors were made an appropriate size, and the lateral incisors slightly smaller, to create natural proportions.

A harmonious size relationship between the teeth is what creates a natural smile.

The color was also improved for the better.

The translucency is alive, and it's bright yet natural.

The natural color gradation, growing more translucent toward the incisal edge, was also recreated.

Case 3: Opaque Veneers, Brought to Life With Translucency

Before Treatment

The teeth had an opaque, dull feel.

No light passed through them at all, making them look lifeless.

It was as if they had been painted white.

There was no natural tooth shape either — everything looked flat.

In particular, the translucency at the incisal edge was beautifully expressed.
