A Veneer Case Treating Protruding, Oversized Teeth
Hello, I'm Dr. Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
Changing the size of a tooth is
a fairly difficult process.
Making a large tooth smaller, in particular,
is a very challenging task.
For tooth size, rather than the actual size of that tooth itself,
the ratio to the surrounding teeth matters more.
Looking at a tooth,
you can't tell, "ah, that tooth is 8mm wide and 10mm tall."
That's not something you can perceive.
By looking at the size ratio to the surrounding teeth,
you come to feel that a tooth is relatively large or small.
The size of the face, how much tooth shows when smiling or talking,
and the length of the teeth all influence how tooth size is perceived.
The alignment of the teeth was poor,
and the teeth were all different sizes.
Small teeth and large teeth were mixed together,
with some tilted and the bite not good either.
There were protruding teeth and chipped teeth mixed in as well,
and the tooth next to the front tooth, called the lateral incisor,
was a peg-shaped tooth, much smaller than a normal-sized tooth.
In a case like this, orthodontic treatment alone doesn't accomplish much.
Even if orthodontics straightens the alignment,
it can't change the size of the teeth.
In a case with such varied sizes,
veneers meant to change the sizes
really require a thorough preparation process.
A detailed diagnosis is made
to decide how the veneer treatment will be carried out.
Please refer to the link below for the precise diagnostic process.
Many different attempts are made
to work out how to change the ratios,
and which area of which tooth will be reduced, and how,
is planned in advance before the veneer treatment proceeds.
The veneer treatment has been completed.
You can see that both the small and large teeth are now a normal size.
The teeth are now even,
and the color and shape of the teeth have improved dramatically.
The proportions between the teeth have also improved,
so the teeth no longer look too large or too small.
You can see that the shape of the teeth was treated with the veneers in a very natural way.
The translucency at the tip of the tooth is a hallmark of a youthful tooth.
You can also see that the three-dimensional quality of a natural tooth is well expressed.
The texture of the tooth surface is also faithfully expressed.
The gums have adapted well too,
with no problems at all.
A premium veneer can't be made in a single day.
