"Are the temporary teeth pretty too?" "Can I eat whatever I want?" "How many days do I have to wear them?"

Over 20 years of focusing exclusively on veneer treatment,

I've confirmed again and again that how the temporary-teeth stage is used determines the final result.

What are temporary veneers?

Temporary veneers are the temporary restorations worn after the tooth has been prepared and before the final veneer is completed.

They're usually made of resin and are bonded on the same day as the procedure.

They aren't simply something to fill an empty space.

They're the final step of diagnosis, where you get to preview the final result.

4 reasons temporary teeth are essential

1. Protecting the tooth

After a tooth is prepared, it becomes sensitive to outside stimuli.

Temporary teeth cover it to prevent sensitivity and reduce the risk of cavities.

2. Maintaining daily life

With temporary teeth alone, you can eat and meet people just fine.

You won't ever be left with your front teeth looking empty.

3. Previewing the design

Temporary teeth are made in a shape similar to the final veneer.

This is the single most important time for you to see it yourself and confirm whether you like it.

4. Gum adaptation

The gums need time to adapt to the new shape.

Only once the gum line settles naturally during the temporary-teeth stage does the final restoration's margin come out clean.

How long is the temporary-teeth period?

On average, 2-3 weeks.

During this period, the final restoration is precisely fabricated at the veneer lab.

With the handmade buildup method, each case is fabricated with great care, so it may take a bit longer.

I always tell patients, "Give it a safe 2-3 weeks, and use that time to fully evaluate your temporary teeth."

How to care for temporary teeth

Food

You can freely eat soft foods.

However, you should avoid hard or sticky foods.

For foods you'd normally bite into with your front teeth, like apples or ribs, cut them into small pieces first

Sticky foods like caramel or rice cakes can pull on the temporary teeth

Biting into ice or hard nuts with your front teeth is strictly off-limits

One important point here is that staining foods like curry are absolutely off-limits

Eating curry often turns temporary teeth yellow.

Brushing and flossing

Brush gently with soft bristles.

When flossing, don't pull the floss out to the side — lift it straight up and out so the temporary teeth don't come loose.

Color

Temporary teeth can turn slightly yellow over time.

This is a characteristic of the temporary material and has nothing to do with the final veneer.

What should you do if a temporary tooth comes off?

It happens more often than you'd think, so please don't panic.

Just follow these steps.

Don't throw away the temporary tooth that came off — keep it

Gently clean the area with a soft toothbrush

Contact the clinic as soon as possible

In most cases, it can be rebonded.

Please don't try to force it back on yourself, as this can throw off its shape.

Q1. Do the temporary teeth alone look natural?

We make even the temporary teeth in a shape close to the final veneer.

The color may be somewhat flat, but the shape is nearly identical. There's no issue with daily life or going out.

Q2. Can I exercise while wearing temporary teeth?

General exercise is fine.

However, for high-impact sports like boxing or martial arts, I recommend avoiding them or wearing a mouthguard.

Q3. If I don't like the temporary teeth, will the final veneers not look good either?

Actually, it's the opposite. If you're not happy with the shape or length at the temporary-teeth stage, that's exactly when we adjust it.

The final veneer is simply a direct transfer of the temporary-teeth shape you were fully satisfied with.
