Gangnam Veneers: A Treatment Case for Protruding, Crowded Teeth

When the dental alignment is already even and only the shape of the teeth needs to be made prettier,

esthetic tooth reshaping — that is, veneers alone — is often all that's needed.

If the alignment is good and the teeth are small,

the amount of tooth reduction can be reduced considerably.

It would be great if every case were like that,

but there are far more cases where the alignment isn't good.

When the tooth alignment isn't good like this, Gangnam veneer treatment is always tied to orthodontics.

Should you get orthodontics and then veneers,

orthodontics alone,

or just Gangnam veneers on their own?

Among these three options,

the amount of tooth reduction, tooth health, and side effects,

the overall treatment cost,

and even the overall treatment period

all have to be weighed together to make the decision.

The two front teeth protruded slightly,

and with the poor alignment, wear had occurred on both teeth,

resulting in severe asymmetry.

The alignment on both sides of the front teeth wasn't good either,

and likewise, wear had made the tooth shape considerably shorter.

The teeth were in a state of significant protrusion.

In a case with this many different problems,

if treatment is done without regard to time or cost,

doing sufficient orthodontics first and then veneers afterward would be the best approach.

Whether no-prep veneers would be possible after orthodontics is hard to say from the current state,

but since some reduction is likely to be needed regardless,

while minimizing reduction,

going straight to Gangnam veneer treatment is, in terms of cost and treatment period,

not a bad option, I think.

We plan the treatment so that veneers can even out the tooth alignment

while also changing the shape and color of the teeth.

At the same time, the amount of tooth reduction has to be minimized,

and there must be no side effects.

We plan how to change the tooth alignment,

and we also plan how to change the shape of the teeth.

In this process, we also plan out

how the protruding teeth will be made to look pretty.

Once the whole plan is finalized, we use wax accordingly

to build a preview of the tooth shape,

and in this process, the amount of tooth reduction is also fully decided.

We decided to reduce only the two front teeth and do a minute reduction only on the protruding part of the canine,

while leaving the other teeth with no reduction at all.

This is the result of the reduction carried out according to the plan.

The alignment of the teeth is now even,

and the shape of the teeth was finished beautifully.

You can see the tooth color was also finished bright and beautiful.

The gums, too, blend well with the Gangnam veneers,

minimizing the chance of inflammation.

The texture of the tooth surface as well

resembles that of a natural tooth,

so even though the color and shape of the teeth became dramatically more beautiful,

the natural feel is still fully preserved.

The protruding look is noticeably gone.

While minimizing tooth reduction,

we were still able to achieve every result the patient wanted.
