No-Prep Veneer Treatment for Inward-Tilted Teeth with Gum Contouring
Hello, I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
There's a lot to think about with medical care done for aesthetic purposes.
When the current condition doesn't interfere with daily life,
treatments done purely to become more beautiful, in other words, cosmetic treatments,
only when their side effects are minimized
will their value truly shine, I believe.
The same is true for eyelid or nose surgery, and among procedures like double-jaw surgery or facial contouring,
among the many types of cosmetic surgery,
unless it's surgery meant to correct a functional problem,
side effects should be minimal.
The same applies to veneers.
Because of a few clinics that once performed veneer treatment too aggressively,
veneers came to be seen as a treatment with many side effects,
but when treatment follows sound principles and proper indications,
it's actually a treatment with quite few side effects.
This is especially true for no-prep veneers,
which can be considered an even safer treatment since there's no damage to the tooth.
For no-prep veneers to be possible,
three conditions are needed.
The alignment must be even,
the teeth must be small,
and they must not be protruding.
The teeth were quite short in length and small in size,
the alignment was even but there were gaps between the teeth,
and there was a considerable inward tilt.
It was a perfect case for no-prep veneers.
In some cases, the inward tilt can be due to a skeletal issue,
or it can result from orthodontic treatment.
In this case, the patient had not had orthodontics but still had inward-tilted teeth.
For how to treat this condition,
we carried out a diagnosis.
We would treat without reducing the teeth, but since the teeth were too short,
we needed to lengthen them,
and after considering various factors, from occlusal issues onward,
we decided to perform gum contouring.
Gum contouring is only done to the extent that it does no harm to the health of the teeth and gums,
so it does not affect tooth health.
As described above, we plan out the changes to the teeth in advance.
Then treatment begins,
starting with gum contouring.
Gum contouring is performed using a laser.
After about a week, the gum shape stabilizes,
and the teeth remain at their new, longer length.
Now it's time to try in the no-prep veneers.
First, we placed the veneer on the left side only.
You can clearly see the tooth becoming longer.
The tooth's dimensionality is enhanced, making it look even more beautiful than the natural tooth.
Viewed from the side, you can also clearly see that the inward-tilted look has disappeared.
This time, we placed the no-prep veneer on the right side.
This is also a side view photo, and it clearly reduces the inward-tilted look.
The no-prep veneer treatment for the inward-tilted teeth is now complete.
The teeth became larger and longer,
and while correcting the inward tilt,
the tooth's dimensionality and color remain natural.
It expresses a translucent, youthful tooth beautifully.
Anyone can make an opaque, artificial-looking veneer.
That's because it's typically made by a computer, not a person.
A veneer made by computer and machine in a day or two
can never match one crafted by hand.
This is especially true for veneers made extremely thin,
no-prep veneers absolutely require hand-crafting.
Of course, who makes it also matters a great deal.
Dream Dental Clinic is a master craftsman of precise, beautiful, hand-made veneers.
