Treating a Retroclined Bite After Braces With No-Prep Veneers

The method of veneer treatment that doesn't reduce the tooth at all

is called a no-prep veneer.

It would be wonderful if every case could be done as a no-prep veneer,

but that isn't the case.

The three important conditions for no-prep veneers are

1. The teeth must be small,

2. The alignment must be good, and

3. The teeth must not protrude.

Given these conditions, patients get veneer treatment for a variety of reasons,

and perhaps the most common is a retroclined bite.

In particular, quite a few patients end up getting veneer treatment

after their teeth become retroclined following orthodontic treatment.

In this patient's case too, the alignment was good and there was no problem with tooth shape,

but the retroclined bite was so severe that she came in for veneer treatment.

She met the conditions for no-prep veneers I mentioned earlier quite well.

First, her teeth were quite small.

So small that making them larger was actually a good idea.

The alignment was good, but there was spacing between the teeth.

Having spacing between the teeth is favorable for no-prep veneer treatment.

On top of that, with the retroclined bite,

this could be considered an ideal case for no-prep veneers.

Seen from the side, you can tell the retroclined bite was quite severe.

The current proportion of the teeth wasn't good.

The front teeth were too short,

and the proportion between the front teeth and the other teeth wasn't good either.

Veneer treatment is what resolves these various problems.

After anticipating to some extent how the shape of the teeth would change,

we carried out a precision wax-up diagnosis for the veneer treatment.

The proportions improved significantly.

The front teeth were still somewhat short,

and lengthening them further wasn't easy because of bite-related issues.

To lengthen the teeth, we carried out gum contouring.

This is an effective way to lengthen the teeth.

After about a week, once the gums have stabilized,

we take an impression and proceed with fabricating the veneers.

The veneers have been fabricated.

You can clearly see the change in tooth size.

The teeth were not reduced at all.

You can also confirm that the retroclined bite has improved.

We check the other side the same way.

The no-prep veneer treatment for the retroclined bite is now complete.

As the teeth became more beautiful,

a variety of problems were resolved as well.
