Veneer Retreatment That Brings Out the Details

Quite a lot of patients want veneer treatment these days.

They're unhappy with the shape or color of their teeth and get treatment in order to improve it.

But even after getting treatment to improve things,

the result can look so awkward and artificial

that it ends up less esthetic than before, and this is happening more and more.

Just as people increasingly look for cosmetic surgery that's natural as well as beautiful,

naturalness is the baseline for veneers too,

with beauty coming on top of that.

Doing no-prep veneers indiscriminately is a problem,

and I also find it quite concerning

that some clinics claim to use a material found only at their clinic,

or say what they do isn't really "veneers" but something else entirely,

giving it a different name and presenting it as a different treatment.

This tooth looks like a natural tooth, but it's actually a veneer.

We brought out as much of that natural, translucent feel as possible,

expressing a natural sense of depth in the tooth to the fullest extent.

everything has to be different from the very start of the veneer treatment.

A proper treatment plan needs to be set,

with the amount of tooth reduction and the expected result predicted before treatment begins.

In particular, the veneer fabrication process

shouldn't use the same-day method that's trendy these days,

but should be made by hand instead.

But recently, same-day veneers have been becoming more and more common.

Rather than focusing on the quality of the result,

it's become a method aimed at making veneers easily, quickly, and much more cheaply.

The same-day method can produce good results if used well,

but it's ended up being used as a factory-style production method at large dental chains.

The result of that kind of same-day method looks like this.

There's almost no shape to the tooth at all,

and it's excessively white and opaque.

There's nothing about it that could be mistaken for a natural tooth,

and it's obvious to anyone that it's been treated, yet it doesn't look pretty.

I recently even saw this kind of treatment advertised inside an apartment elevator.

Are veneers like this really beautiful veneers?

To avoid an artificial feel,

the translucent quality and varied color expression of natural teeth matter greatly.

As in this photo, a sense of depth matters just as much.

If you look closely at the photo, the tooth surface isn't made of one single flat color;

you can see a variety of shades expressed.

Comparing this with a same-day veneer,

you can clearly see the difference.

That feeling of a stick of xylitol gum stuck on...

It's simple to make, but it can't be called esthetic at all.

Veneers that blend well with the surrounding natural teeth

become natural, beautiful veneers.

Bringing out all the details of the tooth surface

also matters for natural, beautiful veneers.
