No-Prep Veneers: What Even Dentists Want to Know

In the veneer lecture I hold every month for dentists,

one of the questions many dentists ask is about no-prep veneers.

Through a total of 8 hours of lecture and 4 hours of hands-on training,

I cover everything from diagnosis to the full treatment process for veneers.

About an hour of that is devoted to no-prep veneers,

and once dentists have grasped the basics of veneer treatment,

explaining which cases are suitable for no-prep veneers

and what steps differ from a standard veneer treatment

is enough for them to understand it quite quickly.

In this post, let's look at a range of no-prep veneer cases.

What matters for no-prep veneers is whether three conditions are met.

1. The teeth must be small

2. The alignment must be good

3. The teeth must not protrude

If these three conditions are met,

the chances of being able to do no-prep veneers go up significantly.

With no-prep veneers, the teeth will always end up larger than they currently are.

That's why the teeth need to be small for the result to look good.

Having some spacing between the teeth

helps with no-prep veneer treatment.

A case where the teeth are small, well-aligned, and have spacing between them

is well suited to no-prep veneers.

Even with no-prep veneers, a natural look is the baseline.

Veneers that make it obvious to anyone, after treatment, that the front teeth aren't natural —

artificial-looking, awkward veneers are not good treatment.

This is a case where the teeth are severely damaged from something like acid reflux.

Since the teeth are already extensively damaged, removing even more tooth structure isn't a good idea.

In cases like this, using no-prep veneers

can reinforce the teeth while also improving their appearance.

You can see a natural result after veneer treatment.

No-prep veneers are also possible for undersized (peg) teeth.
