Apgujeong Station Veneer Dentistry: Natural Minimal-Reduction Veneers

By Park Jonguk, DDS, MS — board-certified specialist in conservative dentistry Published

Hello.

I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic, veneer specialists near Apgujeong Station.

If we try to define what veneer treatment is,

"bonding a thin ceramic panel to the front surface of the tooth

to improve the shape or color of the tooth"

is how we can define it.

In this process, for various reasons, the tooth surface may or may not be reduced.

Whatever the material, if it's a type of ceramic

bonded as a thin panel to the tooth surface, any such treatment is a form of veneer.

You'll sometimes see a treatment given a different name

and advertised as though it were something other than a veneer,

but that's a somewhat mistaken claim.

To bond on a thin ceramic panel like this, there are many situations that call for reducing the tooth.

At Dream Dental Clinic near Apgujeong Station, how little we reduce at this stage,

and how natural and beautiful the tooth still becomes even with minimal reduction,

these two things are the core of veneer treatment.

The tooth alignment was good.

But there were problems with the shape and color of the teeth, and with the condition of the gums.

Since the patient was a man,

this was a case where the teeth needed a more angular feel rather than being too rounded.

The gums were swollen, so gum treatment needed to be done alongside the veneers.

As mentioned earlier,

the teeth need to become beautiful while keeping tooth reduction to a minimum.

If it were acceptable for the teeth to become larger than their current size,

we could have proceeded with no reduction at all,

but since that wasn't an option here, we decided on a basic level of reduction.

By building the teeth up in wax,

we test out

exactly how much of the tooth needs to be reduced.

This is the state after gum treatment and tooth reduction were completed.

If you compare this with the natural tooth state shown earlier,

you can see that only an extremely small amount was reduced.

By making temporary teeth and checking their thickness,

we finalize the necessary tooth reduction,

and use the temporary tooth shape to confirm whether it matches the form, size, and proportion the patient wants.

Even though the ceramic is extremely thin,

it still fully expresses the rich feel of a natural tooth within it.

This is something the one-day method simply cannot match,

a distinct advantage that only the hand-made method has.

Just as a luxury garment differs from ordinary ready-to-wear clothing,

there's a considerable gap in quality between a one-day veneer stamped out by machine

and a hand-made veneer.

Once the ceramic panel, the veneer, is placed like this,

the color and shape of the tooth change dramatically.

Through Dream Dental Clinic near Apgujeong Station,

the three-dimensional lines of the tooth are all kept alive.

Even the surface texture fully carries the feel of a natural tooth.

This kind of three-dimensionality and surface texture

is very much a hallmark of a beautiful tooth.
