Cheongdam-dong Veneers: A Treatment Process Where Precise Reduction Is Essential

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment.

It reshapes the teeth, much like eye or nose surgery reshapes the face.

That's why it's called esthetic tooth reshaping.

As with any cosmetic procedure, health should never be sacrificed

for the sake of putting esthetics first.

The same is true of veneer treatment.

Making the teeth look prettier should never come at the cost of tooth health.

The method that allows treatment with absolutely no damage to the tooth

is no-prep veneers.

A wide range of Cheongdam-dong veneer cases like these can be done with no reduction at all.

But most cases need at least some amount of reduction.

When reducing a tooth, what matters most is that it shouldn't put undue strain on tooth health.

So that tooth health isn't compromised,

the most important part of the treatment is the diagnostic process.

Through diagnosis, we have to decide exactly which part of which tooth needs how much reduction.

"The minimum reduction that achieves the most beautiful result"

This is the guiding principle behind reduction in Cheongdam-dong veneers.

There was overall spacing between the teeth,

and the shape of the teeth didn't match her facial features at all.

She wanted to change from the current straight-edged shape to a rounder one.

The line between the two front teeth is called the midline,

and since it was noticeably tilted, there was an esthetic problem,

so we decided to close the spaces completely with Cheongdam-dong veneers.

In a case like this, we have to decide how much to reduce the teeth.

First, if the tilt is beyond a certain degree, we reduce between the teeth

to bring the tilt back to normal.

The space between the teeth also has to be closed with the veneer,

but since black triangles can easily form near the gum,

we determine the amount of reduction with that in mind.

We use wax to build a preview of how the treatment will look.

During this process, we discuss with the patient exactly which areas need how much reduction,

and decide it all in advance.

What matters here

is reducing the tooth exactly according to that plan.

In the process of reducing the tooth,

Using a range of guides,

we check how much has been reduced

as we proceed.

We reduce, quite literally, only exactly as much as is needed.

In this process, a microscope is essential.

We're reducing at a level of 0.1-0.5mm,

which is impossible to gauge with the naked eye.

Only reduction done under a microscope

can guarantee that level of precision.

Aside from the area between the front teeth,

we hardly reduced anything at all.

For the reduction between the teeth as well,

we kept it quite limited,

reducing only exactly as much as needed to correct the tooth's axis.

We proceed in a way that preserves a natural color and translucency.

We adjust the tooth color to match the patient's facial tone.

A tooth that's simply white isn't necessarily a pretty tooth.

A tooth that's only white and opaque

ends up looking too artificial and esthetically lacking.

Reducing precisely and only the areas that are needed,

using a microscope,

and achieving the most natural, beautiful teeth possible —

that is Dream Dental Clinic's goal.
