Improving the shape and form of the front teeth

to make them more beautiful is called tooth reshaping.

Within that, bonding ceramic only to the front surface of the tooth is a veneer,

and covering the entire tooth is an all-ceramic crown.

You'll sometimes see veneers introduced under a different name, as if they were some other method,

but no such other method actually exists.

A different name doesn't make it a different treatment.

Even for the same veneer, differences in the fabrication method

and in the skill of the technician making it

will change the outcome of the treatment for beautifying the front teeth,

the difference between looking natural versus looking artificial and awkward.

The way veneer ceramic is made

splits into hand-made fabrication by a dental technician

and the method where it's designed by computer and cut out by machine,

and the latter is also called the one-day method.

The computer-made one-day method

has limits built into its fabrication process,

so it's essentially impossible right now to give the result a natural color and shape.

As a result, the finished product ends up looking like a stick of xylitol gum stuck on the tooth.

The process of making a natural, beautiful veneer

is so demanding

that most dental clinics treat patients with the simpler-to-make one-day method instead.

A natural feel

means the tooth has varied expression built into it.

The younger the tooth, the more translucency remains alive at the tip,

and within that translucent area there's a wide range of color tones and light reflections.

The tooth's shape needs clear three-dimensionality

and a sense of separation between individual teeth.

When made with the one-day method,

the teeth end up opaque and simply too white,

which creates an awkward, artificial feel.

In particular, as in the case above, when the ceramic isn't used properly,

just two front teeth can end up a different color from the rest.

As for why it's only those two front teeth that differ in color,

any dentist who specializes in veneers knows the answer,

but the one-day method struggles to solve it.

For an all-ceramic crown or veneer that looks this awkward,

once it's naturally improved through retreatment,

it can become so seamless that even a dentist

may struggle to tell natural tooth from ceramic.

It looks natural and beautiful.

In a case like this, where only two teeth actually have a problem,

most clinics using the one-day method

will recommend veneers on 4 to 6 or more teeth,

and the reason is that they can't make just the two look natural.

Because the difference from the surrounding natural teeth would be too obvious,

they use the approach of doing many teeth so that all of them look equally artificial.

But when a veneer is extremely thin yet still carries varied expression inside it,

it blends naturally with the surrounding teeth.

With just two veneers, we corrected the black triangles

and the crack lines on the tooth surface.

So why doesn't every clinic make veneers this way?

Because the fabrication is simply too demanding.

A computer-made veneer can be milled by machine in 10 to 15 minutes once it's designed,

but a natural veneer like this

takes 1 to 2 weeks of painstaking work.

In particular, this method is only possible with an exceptionally skilled ceramist,

so it takes considerably more time and cost.

Most one-day systems use the same brand of computer and milling machine,

so there's little difference no matter which clinic you visit,

but hand-fabricated work varies a great deal in quality from clinic to clinic.

Starting from a state where only 4 front teeth were white and unnatural-looking,

this is a case treated with beautiful veneers

that carry natural translucency and varied color tones.
