Treatment that changes the shape, size, or color of the front teeth

is called cosmetic tooth reshaping.

For reshaping teeth to look this attractive,

there are two methods: laminate veneers and all-ceramic crowns.

They're usually just called veneers and all-ceramic for short.

Since 2006, I've been practicing

primarily cosmetic tooth reshaping near Apgujeong Station.

It's already been almost 17 years.

Over that time, a lot has happened in the world of cosmetic tooth reshaping and veneer treatment.

The biggest change has been the emergence of veneers designed and fabricated by computer.

Compared to traditional handmade veneers,

these dramatically cut costs and time for the clinic,

so they've become extremely popular.

This certainly has plenty of advantages from the clinic's perspective,

but from the patient's perspective, aside from finishing quickly,

there isn't much real advantage,

so I continue to stick with the handmade veneer method.

If there's another major development worth mentioning,

it's that a few clinics ran exaggerated veneer advertisements,

and as a result, veneers came to be seen as a bad treatment.

Those clinics ran huge ad campaigns and offered cut-rate prices for a few years,

performing improper treatment before eventually disappearing.

Seeing how few clinics have been focused mainly on veneers

in Apgujeong for 17 years the way I have,

it makes me realize that staying this consistent isn't easy at all.

Case 1

This patient had a six-unit bridge on her front teeth.

It had been done a long time ago,

and it had started chipping little by little,

so to further improve the shape and color,

we decided to redo the treatment.

Young, beautiful teeth

need to have a natural shape,

and a clear sense of dimensionality.

The overall translucent feel of a tooth

is practically a hallmark of youthful teeth.

Case 2

The front teeth had a fairly severe gap.

When there's an occlusal or periodontal issue,

gaps like this can develop.

Orthodontic treatment is usually the best answer.

But in this particular case,

there were also issues with tooth shape, decay, and chipping,

so even with orthodontics, veneers would still be needed.

In most cases like this, every tooth ends up getting root canal treatment

and being treated with all-ceramic crowns.

In this case,

however, the treatment was completed with veneers.

The alignment, size, and even the proportion between the teeth —

all came together almost perfectly,

and the gum shape between the teeth was also treated

to look very good as well.

Case 3

This is a no-prep veneer case.

The teeth are small,

the alignment is good,

and they don't stick outward —

these are the three key conditions for no-prep veneers.

This case fits all of these conditions perfectly.

We took a photo with the veneer placed on just one side.

It was designed to wrap around the sides of the tooth well.

In many cases, no-prep veneers

end up looking quite awkward and unnatural.

There are two reasons for that.

First, a proper diagnosis wasn't done.

In other words, no-prep treatment was used on a case that wasn't actually suited for it.

The other reason

is forcing veneers to be done using the same-day method.

Or it could be that the dental technician's skill simply wasn't at the level needed to make no-prep veneers.
