Front Teeth Veneers for Enhanced Esthetics — Cheongdam-dong Veneer

By Park Jonguk, DDS, MS — board-certified specialist in conservative dentistry Published

Hello, I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.

The shape and color of front teeth are genuinely complex and varied.

Making them simple and flat would be easier to fabricate,

but it would lose the feel of natural teeth.

The goal at our clinic, Dream Dental Clinic,

is to perform cosmetic tooth reshaping that looks natural and beautiful.

Natural-looking teeth

need to have very complex and varied forms and colors.

Veneers made by computer in a single day simply can't replicate these characteristics.

Even with a handmade approach,

the results can differ enormously depending on who makes them.

Let's look at a case of front teeth veneer treatment that preserves natural detail.

This patient had root canal treatment on a single front tooth, which was then restored with an all-ceramic crown.

Since the size itself was different, it wasn't an easy case to make look good by simply redoing that one tooth,

and the patient also wanted to combine redoing the all-ceramic crown with Cheongdam-dong veneers on all four front teeth

to resolve the other issues as well.

The problem was that two of the front teeth protruded quite a bit.

While addressing that slightly protruding look,

the patient wanted the teeth to look even and attractive.

Also, the lateral incisors right next to the front teeth were smaller in comparison.

With teeth this small, tooth reduction can be kept to a minimum.

However, to resolve the protrusion through Cheongdam-dong veneer treatment,

some degree of tooth reduction is unavoidable.

We diagnose the current state of the teeth,

and predict the treatment method, the amount of tooth reduction, and the expected outcome

through a precision wax-up diagnosis.

When we removed the all-ceramic crown,

we found that a considerable amount of tooth structure had already been removed,

and the tooth was severely discolored.

Teeth are prone to this kind of discoloration after root canal treatment.

A method called internal bleaching can be used to brighten the color.

However, discoloration close to the root, as shown in the photo above,

requires careful attention.

Because the bleaching agent can sometimes cause root resorption,

we sometimes skip it when it isn't strictly necessary.

In this case, since the ceramic itself would cover the tooth color,

and enough tooth structure had already been removed,

we decided to skip that step.

The Cheongdam-dong veneers, made of ceramic, were completed.

To cover the discoloration, the all-ceramic crown is fabricated using a slightly brighter, slightly more opaque material.

Even when the crown is finished with some discoloration still remaining underneath,

the various translucent and opaque layers built into the all-ceramic crown

cover the dark color, giving the tooth a bright, clear appearance.

You can also see that the shade blends well with the Cheongdam-dong veneers.

In this way, the all-ceramic crown and

veneer treatment on the three other front teeth were both completed.

The teeth now have a brighter, more beautiful form.

They express the natural coloration of real teeth just as it is,

and the three-dimensional feel of the teeth retains the same quality as natural teeth.

Even viewed from various angles, the shape, color, and surface texture of the teeth

all retain the feel of natural teeth.
