Esthetic Anterior Laminate Veneer Redo in Apgujeong

Esthetics is the highest priority in anterior laminate veneer treatment.

After all, it is a cosmetic procedure intended to make teeth more attractive.

Equally important, however,

is dental health.

It is not advisable to undergo a cosmetic procedure at the expense of dental health.

Compromising dental health may mean

removing too much tooth structure

or potentially threatening the health of the gums.

Making the teeth more attractive without compromising their health

is, in my view, the most important part of anterior laminate veneer treatment.

The difficulty arises when a patient has already received laminate veneers in Apgujeong

and needs redo treatment.

In a considerable number of cases, far too much tooth structure has already been removed.

Although called laminate veneers, the treatment is closer to all-ceramic crowns.

When extensive tooth reduction leads to thicker ceramic,

one would expect at least a better esthetic result,

but often that is not the case.

Esthetics is highly subjective.

Some people may prefer laminate veneers in Apgujeong with this appearance,

but this patient felt they looked too unnatural and white, yet oddly gray,

and came in for redo treatment.

The patient also disliked how overly full the teeth appeared.

Why can teeth look gray even though they are white?

This is a mistake many dentists and dental technicians make.

In an effort to create translucent-looking laminate veneers,

if a large amount of tooth structure is removed to add depth

and translucent ceramic is used to increase transparency,

the teeth may instead look dark and gray.

First, to give the teeth a more natural form,

we need to create visual separation between them and add three-dimensionality.

The current form looks too flat,

giving it a strongly artificial appearance.

After removing the laminate veneers placed in Apgujeong,

we found that a great deal of tooth structure had indeed been removed.

At this point, all-ceramic crowns would normally be indicated,

but the patient did not want any further tooth reduction,

so no additional reduction was performed.

When redoing treatment, the process of removing the laminate veneers is very important.

Using a laser is the safest way to remove them.

The ceramic restorations then needed to be fabricated.

Because the substantial reduction required thicker ceramic,

more characterization could be incorporated.

To make them as natural-looking and beautiful as possible,

we began meticulously fabricating the laminate veneers in Apgujeong.

The fabrication process differs enormously from laminate veneers in Apgujeong made by computer in just a day or two.

Computer-designed, machine-processed laminate veneers cannot match

the level of handmade laminate veneers; the difference is in another league.

The laminate veneer treatment was completed.

The form, shade, and translucency are all nearly indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Three-dimensionality is a characteristic of natural teeth,

and cannot be replicated by a computer-based same-day method.

Tooth translucency is likewise beyond what it can reproduce.
