Discolored Resin, Solved with Front-Tooth Veneers

When a front tooth chips, it can be treated

by directly filling it with a material called resin,

or with ceramic, through veneers or an all-ceramic crown.

Resin has the drawback of discoloring over time, but

it's widely used because it's inexpensive and can be done quickly.

When a front tooth chips at a young age, it's usually treated with resin.

It varies with eating habits, but in resin-treated cases,

discoloration tends to begin after 2-3 years.

That wouldn't be a big problem for a molar,

but for a front tooth, even slight discoloration

becomes esthetically unappealing.

Since ceramic doesn't discolor,

when it's used for front-tooth veneers, it lasts a long time

and can express both the color and translucency of a tooth,

making it the best material for this purpose.

You can see that the color at the tip of the front tooth looks cloudy.

After the tip of the tooth chipped,

it had been treated with resin,

but having to get it retreated every time it discolored

was inconvenient,

and since the front tooth was too large while the lateral incisor next to it was relatively too small,

the proportion between the teeth was poor.

She also wanted the tooth color to be brighter,

so we decided to treat it with veneers.

The area that had been treated with resin was quite extensive.

For veneer treatment, it's best to remove all of the existing resin.

Depending on the condition, some resin can be left in place

and treated over,

but since this case had been treated a long time ago,

we decided to remove all of the resin before treating it.

We carried out a precise wax-up diagnosis process

and set a plan in advance for how to proceed with treatment.

We barely reduced any of the teeth other than the front tooth, but

once we removed the resin from the front tooth, we found that the tooth itself had been damaged quite extensively.

The veneer treatment on the front tooth was completed like this.

You can see that the ceramic veneer

is extremely natural and beautiful.

The naturalness at the tip of the tooth

and its sense of depth are well preserved.

Even viewed from other angles,

all the teeth retain the feel of natural teeth

while being finished beautifully.

Even the texture of the front-tooth veneer's surface

was reproduced in the same form as a natural tooth.
