Bunny Teeth Veneers: Bringing Large Front Teeth into Proportion
Hello, I'm Dr. Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
I've been providing veneer treatment in Apgujeong-dong
since 2006,
and one case that's always a dilemma
is doing veneers for oversized teeth.
When a tooth is too large, veneers are really the only option available.
The problem is that even with veneers,
you can't dramatically shrink a tooth.
The reason I've studied tooth proportion so intensively
is precisely to find solutions
for cases like this, where tooth size is the issue.
Veneer treatment that makes a large tooth appear smaller
works by adjusting the proportion of the teeth.
Trying to simply shrink a tooth outright
would require far too much reduction,
so the important thing is adjusting the proportion relative to the other teeth so it looks relatively smaller.
Even to the eye, the two front teeth were quite large.
In cases like this, we first need to check whether the front teeth themselves are actually large,
or whether the teeth beside them are so small that the front teeth only appear large by comparison.
In this case, the lateral incisors were undersized,
which made the front teeth look even larger, though in fact the front teeth themselves were also on the large side.
There was also a shape issue with the front teeth—
the tooth shape itself had a jar-like quality.
That's one of the factors that makes a tooth look larger.
This also needed to be factored into the bunny-teeth veneer treatment.
The proportion between the teeth
also needed to be corrected to an appropriate ratio.
Here, wherever possible, the front teeth needed to be made smaller
while the lateral incisors beside them needed to be made larger.
The line at the edge of the teeth also needed improving.
It had to be designed
so the teeth would look more even and attractive.
Making improvements across all these different areas
is exactly what bunny-teeth veneer treatment involves.
With thorough preparation and a precise treatment plan,
we carried out the treatment.

The bunny-teeth veneer treatment has been completed.
You can see that the tooth proportions have clearly improved.
The front teeth now look noticeably smaller,
and the lateral incisors have reached a normal size.
Size matters, but
capturing the character of natural teeth well is just as important in veneer work.
The three-dimensional quality of the teeth and the natural translucency at the tooth edges
are the defining traits of young teeth.
The texture of the tooth surface needs to be expressed as well.
To capture this many different qualities of a natural tooth,
veneer fabrication requires extensive experience.
Most clinics these days design and fabricate veneers by computer,
but this not only fails to capture this level of detail,
it also tends to produce a distinctly artificial feel.
Even the canines were rendered naturally,
completing the bunny-teeth veneer treatment.
The lateral incisors were also reproduced
at a normal size.
