Veneer Treatment for Black Triangles

As we age, when the bone supporting the gums recedes,

the gums recede along with it.

When the gums recede, the tooth roots become exposed,

and when this happens at the front teeth,

gaps begin to open up between them,

appearing as dark triangular spaces,

which we call black triangles.

This can happen simply as a result of aging,

but it also commonly appears after orthodontic treatment.

It tends to show up more often after adult orthodontics,

and once it appears, there are two ways to treat it.

One is periodontal treatment,

which involves taking gum tissue from another part of the mouth and grafting it into place.

When the surgery goes well, it can be effective,

but so many different factors can cause it to fail

that it's one of the less predictable procedures, making it hard to recommend lightly.

The other option is veneers.

Veneers involve bonding a thin ceramic shell to the front surface of the tooth

to achieve a cosmetic improvement.
