you have probably wondered, "Could I also get no-prep veneers?"

You may be reluctant to have your teeth reduced,

yet still want to improve their appearance.

In that respect, no-prep veneers have considerable appeal.

Not reducing the teeth means

that if the veneers are removed someday,

the teeth can return to their current state.

In addition, because the teeth are not damaged,

there is no reason for the various side effects of veneers to occur.

In a sense, no-prep veneers are the most ideal type of veneer.

The problem is that a no-prep approach is not possible in every case.

In fact, fewer cases are suitable for it.

Only around 10% of the patients who visit our clinic can be considered suitable for a no-prep approach.

For no-prep veneers

to make the teeth look beautiful, the following three conditions are essential.

The teeth must be small

The teeth must be well aligned

The teeth must not protrude

Of course, even when these three conditions are not met,

no-prep veneers may still be possible.

However, the result will not look attractive.

When all three conditions are met,

treatment proceeds through a diagnostic process that identifies the current problems and determines how to improve the appearance of the teeth.

The patient visited for veneers because the teeth were too small and their shapes looked awkward.

First, the teeth were considerably small.

Because they were about 15% smaller than average teeth,

anyone could tell at first glance that they looked very small.

Compared with the front teeth,

the other teeth had awkward shapes,

but their widths were not particularly narrow,

which made the small front teeth stand out even more.

In addition, the front teeth were square,

while the other teeth were pointed,

so this case required improvement in both tooth size and shape.

Fortunately, as mentioned earlier,

this case met all the conditions for no-prep veneers,

so veneer treatment could proceed without much concern.

After this detailed diagnostic wax-up process,

the wax model reveals the planned tooth shapes.

Using these shapes,

provisional teeth are made over the patient's teeth before treatment,

allowing the patient to preview how the teeth will change.

Using the waxed-up shapes, we make provisional teeth with resin directly in the mouth.

We use these shapes and talk extensively with the patient

to refine the tooth shapes.

Because the teeth suddenly become larger,

we need to proceed while directly evaluating the change in size.

During this process, the shape of the gums is also adjusted.

Gum contouring is also performed with a laser.

In this particular case, however,

the teeth did not need to become much longer,

so our goal was simply to make their shapes reasonably symmetrical.

After teeth whitening, we evaluate changes in tooth shade and gum shape 2 weeks later.

The veneers can now be fabricated and seated.

The veneer treatment has been completed.

The ceramic used for no-prep veneers is extremely thin.

Not only no-prep veneers, but most veneers

use very thin ceramic, making this degree of varied expression extremely difficult.

Reproducing the translucency at the tooth edges in ceramic this thin, in particular,

is a highly demanding process in terms of both time and technique.

Because it is difficult, instead of producing a natural-looking result like this,

the veneers may be made to look awkward and obvious.

This is an example of such a case.

Not only is the symmetry incorrect,

but each tooth also lacks the basic form of a natural tooth.

The teeth are opaque, and even the shade differs from tooth to tooth.

Of course, some people prefer this opaque, square shape,

but these veneers are far from the type our clinic aims to provide.

This type is usually a same-day approach, meaning it is designed and fabricated by computer.

Of course, being handmade alone does not mean every veneer will look like a natural tooth as ours do.
