Orthodontics involves no tooth reduction, but it takes a long time.

Veneers finish within about two weeks, but there's a possibility of tooth reduction.

Since the advantages and disadvantages of each are clear,

the best treatment method needs to be chosen based on the individual case.

Veneers focus on reshaping the form of the teeth rather than correcting alignment, while

a minor alignment-correcting effect comes along as a secondary benefit.

Orthodontics, without modifying the shape of the teeth,

is a treatment that corrects only the alignment.

If the alignment is good but the shape or color of the teeth needs improvement, veneers are the clear choice, without hesitation.

If the shape and color of the teeth are good but the alignment is poor, orthodontics is naturally the answer.

The tricky case is when both the alignment and the shape or color of the teeth are poor.

My standard is this: if the alignment can only be corrected by reducing so much that the outermost layer of enamel is entirely removed,

then orthodontics followed by veneers is the way to go;

otherwise, I believe it's better to correctly choose one or the other — veneers or orthodontics.

The teeth were jar-shaped, giving a very strong impression of flaring outward at the tips.

Since the alignment was fairly poor,

it was a case where it was hard to decide whether to do orthodontics followed by veneers,

or veneers alone.

In cases like this, diagnosis is what matters most.

My method of diagnosing for veneers

makes it possible to predict even the amount of tooth reduction in advance, which is why

it's a very effective method in a case like this.

determining which option would be more advantageous.

Showing the amount of tooth reduction accurately is extremely important.

Before veneer treatment,

once the amount of reduction has been confirmed this way,

we carefully consider the possibility of future side effects or debonding before proceeding with treatment.

The more a tooth is reduced, the more side effects there tend to be, and

the higher the chance the veneer will come loose, so

judging the appropriate amount of reduction is important.

it also differs from area to area within a single tooth,
