A Clinic Skilled in Veneers: Straightening Poor Alignment and Crowded Teeth with Veneers

By Park Jonguk, DDS, MS — board-certified specialist in conservative dentistry Published

Hello, I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic, a clinic skilled in veneers.

The cases I'll show today are

ones where, starting from a poor dental alignment,

veneers were used to reshape the alignment, the form of the teeth, and even the tooth color,

all beautifully reshaped in one treatment.

When the arrangement of the teeth is poor,

orthodontic treatment is the best option.

Orthodontics corrects alignment by moving the teeth, whereas

correcting alignment with veneers

involves the drawback of having to reduce the teeth.

So for most patients who come in with an alignment problem, I recommend orthodontics.

Occasionally, though, there are cases where it's hard to decide between orthodontics and veneers.

The first is a matter of time.

In cases where various circumstances make it difficult to spend more than two years on orthodontic treatment,

I do tell patients to make time for orthodontics if at all possible, but sometimes that just isn't feasible.

When both the shape and color of the teeth are problematic, so that

veneers will still be needed even after orthodontic treatment,

the cost would effectively double, so there are cases where veneers alone are chosen instead.

Another factor is the patient's age.

These days, with what's called adult orthodontics, patients in their 40s and 50s do get orthodontic treatment, but

in cases where that's difficult, veneers are used instead.

Case 1

The teeth protruded and the alignment was poor.

This was a case where orthodontics would unquestionably have been the best option, but

since the patient was a bit older,

she preferred to have treatment finish more quickly rather than go through orthodontics.

We decided to proceed with veneers using minimal reduction.

The protruding look was noticeably reduced, and

the alignment became even as well.

Case 2

Both the protrusion of the teeth and the shape of the teeth needed to be addressed.

Even with orthodontic treatment, veneers would still be needed for

the aesthetic goal to be fully achieved, so

we decided to proceed with veneers alone.

The alignment was made even, and

the shape of the teeth was matched to the patient's face shape,

and the tooth color was finished bright.

Case 3

Once a person reaches a certain age,

the strength of the upper lip muscles declines, and

when speaking or smiling, the lower teeth become more visible than the upper teeth.

In cases like that, rather than veneers on the upper teeth,

veneers are placed on the lower teeth instead.

In these cases, since the patients are mostly older, orthodontics isn't easy, and

too many black triangles tend to form after orthodontic treatment.

So there are cases where veneers are chosen instead.

The result was finished looking even and well-aligned, like this.

Let me say this again:

when alignment is poor, orthodontics is the best treatment method.

Only in cases where orthodontics isn't feasible, depending on the situation,

do we treat it this way with veneers. A clinic skilled in veneers

aims for the minimum reduction needed to achieve a beautiful result.
