How Do You Turn Unnatural Veneers Into Something That Looks Like Your Own Teeth?
Hello, I'm Dr. Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
After veneer treatment,
the teeth become beautiful and pretty,
but they can also look natural and blend well with the face,
letting a natural smile stand out,
or, depending on the case,
they can end up white and opaque, looking awkward and unnatural.
For a veneer to look natural
means it has various expressions built in, just like a natural tooth.
To achieve this kind of varied expression,
various materials have to be layered one on top of another.
A veneer with this kind of structure
is called a multi-layer veneer.
On the other hand, a veneer that's white and opaque,
with a feel almost like a piece of xylitol gum stuck on,
is mostly made from a single material,
usually using the most opaque, brightest ceramic throughout.
A veneer with this kind of structure
is called a monolithic or single-layer veneer.
With a multi-layer structure,
fabrication is considerably demanding and takes a long time,
requiring substantial technical skill.
With a single-layer structure, fabrication is simple, done by computer,
and is usually completed in a single day.
This is a veneer made with a single-layer structure.
It's hard for it to blend well with the natural teeth,
and when smiling it looks far too white and opaque,
coming across as unnatural.
In retreating this case,
we redesigned it as a more natural-looking veneer.
With the translucency of the tooth brought back to life and various expressions built in,
the natural-tooth feel is clearly alive.
Please refer to the link below
for the fabrication process of a multi-layer veneer like this.
This photo was taken
a week after the veneer retreatment was completed.
Compared to before treatment,
you can clearly see
that the translucency is alive and the three-dimensional quality looks natural.
In particular, making it as a multi-layer veneer like this
also allows the surface texture of the tooth to resemble a natural tooth.
A veneer with detail alive in it
becomes the most natural and beautiful.
Looking at the feel before and after treatment,
you can see it went from a flat, opaque feel
to something natural and translucent,
with various expressions built in.
Natural beauty.
