A Clinic Skilled at Retreating Old Front-Tooth Veneers

Using all-ceramic crowns or front-tooth veneers

to make the teeth look beautiful is what's called 'tooth cosmetic treatment.'

An all-ceramic crown is a method that covers the entire tooth,

while a veneer is a method that bonds ceramic only to the front surface of the tooth,

and since veneers require less tooth reduction, they can be the better method,

but depending on the situation, an all-ceramic crown is sometimes unavoidable.

Occasionally, veneers alone

are given various different names depending on the clinic.

Sometimes it's presented as if it were a completely different treatment from veneers,

but that's simply a marketing tactic of giving a new name to the same treatment;

it's all still the same veneer treatment.

What we'll look at today

is a case of retreating front-tooth veneers that had been finished awkwardly,

turning them into natural-looking teeth.

The patient had front-tooth veneer treatment done,

but the teeth were far too square,

completely white and opaque...

It genuinely looked like a row of xylitol gum stuck on.

There are two main reasons teeth like this don't look natural.

One is a tooth design with no dimensionality at all,

and the other is a tooth color that falls far outside the range of a natural tooth.

We had to think carefully about how to improve these issues.

A treatment plan is established through a precision wax-up diagnosis.

Precision wax-up diagnosis is one of the most important parts of front-tooth veneer treatment.

It's a process of thoroughly analyzing the current state

and building a precise plan for how to proceed with treatment.

The tooth shape needed to be designed to feel more like a natural tooth,

and the tooth color needed to look more natural,

but since one of the patient's requests was to make the teeth as bright as possible,

we proceeded with treatment accordingly.

Unfortunately, far too much of the tooth had already been reduced.

It was called a veneer in name only, in reality it was closer to an all-ceramic crown.

Even with all that reduction,

it was truly a shame that the result still looked unnatural.

The tooth reduction could likely have been reduced much further,

but the priority now is doing our best to treat the tooth from its current state.

While making the teeth as bright as possible,

the treatment was finished so they'd still feel like natural teeth.

The tooth shape was given natural dimensionality and line,

and the tips were given faithful translucency,

completing a young, beautiful veneer retreatment.

The texture of the tooth surface is also very important for the feel of a natural tooth.

If the tooth surface is made simply smooth,

it's not a natural tooth.

By giving the tooth surface natural contours,

capturing the feel of a natural tooth is very important.
