but the tips of her teeth still looked slightly protruding,

and she wanted to address the overall dark shade of her teeth.

But there was a bigger problem in my diagnosis.

It was the sense that the spaces between the teeth were far too tightly packed —

in other words, a cramped look with no sense of dimension.

During orthodontic treatment, the sides of the teeth are sometimes finely filed down to fit the alignment,

a process known as stripping, or IPR (interproximal reduction).

Teeth that have gone through stripping end up with narrower spaces between them (the embrasure),

which can easily give an artificial, block-like look.

In a case like this, insisting on no-prep without careful judgment can actually backfire.

If the already-crowded spaces between the teeth are left untouched

and ceramic is simply layered on top, the teeth end up looking even bulkier and more cramped.

This shows the finished veneer tried on one side only.

Rather than being bonded only to the front surface of the tooth,

the ceramic extends deep into the space between the teeth,

reshaping the curve of the tooth's side as well.

Only by shaping the sides this way can the teeth, when viewed from the front,

avoid looking like a single fused block, with each tooth instead reading as distinct and alive.

This is a level of finish that a machine-milled, same-day method

can never replicate — it's the pinnacle of what only a handmade build-up technique can achieve.

Here is the patient after completing the entire process.

The previously protruding tooth line has been neatly brought inward,

and the once-dark shade has regained a clear, translucent brightness.

What the patient was most satisfied with, above all,

was that the cramped feeling between the teeth she'd felt after braces was gone,

replaced by a natural, dimensional look where the character of each individual tooth comes through.

Even though veneers were clearly placed, there's no sense of it being foreign at all — it feels just like her own original teeth.
