A Clinic Skilled in Natural Front Veneer Retreatment
Hello. I'm Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
For front veneers or all-ceramic crown treatment, in other words dental cosmetic reshaping,
the first treatment matters a great deal.
Starting from the natural tooth,
what treatment to pursue
needs to be diagnosed precisely, with treatment matched to the actual purpose.
There are occasionally cases that really call for orthodontics,
but end up being forced into cosmetic reshaping instead,
or cases that could have been done with veneers but were treated with all-ceramic crowns instead,
and there are many situations where the right method for the goal simply wasn't found.
With treatment already done,
quite a few patients come to our clinic looking for the correct treatment.
The reasons for retreatment vary.
In this case, it was to get rid of a look that was too white and awkward.
The patient believed they had received veneer treatment,
and it had been over 10 years since then.
Having used it well beyond the typical lifespan of a veneer,
in order to improve the color and shape further,
we decided to go ahead with retreatment.
For the retreatment, the patient wanted it to feel more like a natural tooth,
while staying just as bright as it was.
That's actually a fairly difficult balance.
Natural teeth aren't usually that bright.
So we aimed to bring out as much natural tooth feel as possible,
while still making the color as bright as the patient wanted.
A plan is made
for what to improve and how.
To achieve teeth that are natural-looking yet more even,
precision wax-up diagnosis is carried out.

While bringing out a sense of dimension,
the current shape has a strong triangular feel,
so we decided to reduce that feel
and make the teeth look more even.
Once the veneer was removed,
we could see the underlying condition was quite severe.
It was called a veneer in name only —
the tooth had been reduced almost as much as for a crown.
Reducing this much tooth structure for front veneers
isn't what I'd consider proper treatment.
When removing a veneer,
using a laser is the safest method.
Temporary teeth are made first.
We wait a week or two or more for the gums to settle into a good position,
and check that no gum inflammation develops.
After enough time has passed,
the gums reach a healthy state like this.
At this point, an impression is taken for fabricating the ceramic front veneers,
and fabrication begins.
The natural sense of dimension and color of a real tooth comes through well.
It was made as bright as the patient wanted,
yet the translucent feel is still preserved.
Even from other angles,
the natural look of the front veneers holds up.
