Veneer Treatment for Large, Rabbit-Like Front Teeth
Hello, I'm Park Jonguk, DDS, MS, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
Veneer treatment
is a treatment for changing the shape and color of teeth.
It's one type of cosmetic treatment
that addresses esthetic problems with the teeth.
That's why it's sometimes called tooth reshaping.
Since it's done by bonding ceramic onto the front surface of the tooth,
in cases where the current teeth are small,
it's a treatment quite well suited to making those teeth larger.
The problem is when the teeth are already too large.
To make large teeth smaller,
a correspondingly larger amount of tooth reduction inevitably becomes necessary.
By establishing a thorough plan
to reduce the amount of tooth structure removed as much as possible,
minimizing side effects becomes very important.
This is a case where both front teeth were very large.
Even compared with the adjacent and lower teeth,
you can see just how large these teeth were.
The shape of the teeth was also a problem.
Teeth with a jar-like, bulging shape
are the most difficult cases when doing tooth reshaping with veneers.
For all veneer treatment, an accurate diagnosis is the most important thing.
Along with the diagnosis,

The amount of change in tooth shape needs to be assessed precisely.
Since the size can't be reduced too aggressively,
the proportions relative to the adjacent teeth need to be adjusted.
And this was a case where changing the shape of the teeth mattered a great deal.
Using wax,
we predict the change in proportion and shape
while also confirming the minimum amount of tooth reduction needed to match it,
before proceeding with treatment.
Veneer treatment has now been completed.
The most important thing, first of all, is that the size of the front teeth has been reduced.
And the proportions with the teeth next to the front teeth were properly matched.
By giving the tooth shape enough of a three-dimensional quality,
while showing a natural shape,
that three-dimensional quality also has
quite a significant effect on making the teeth look smaller.
The translucency of the teeth is also
a very important factor in making the teeth look smaller.
All of these design elements also play a significant role
in making the veneers look like natural teeth.
The surface texture of the teeth, too,
needs to bring out the feel of natural teeth as much as possible.
Nothing is as beautiful as looking natural.
By bringing out as much of the varied expression of natural teeth as possible,
beautiful teeth need to be created.
Veneers that bring out a sense of translucency
are especially difficult to make.
This is something the one-day method can never match,
and even with a handmade method,
without substantial experience,
trying to make the teeth translucent can easily end up giving them a grayish tinge instead.
Natural beauty.
