Celebrity Veneers Done Right, Without Looking Unnatural
Hello, I'm Dr. Park Jonguk, director of Dream Dental Clinic.
Veneers are a treatment for cosmetic purposes.
For the sake of appearance,
it's a type of tooth-reshaping treatment that changes the shape of the teeth.
This kind of tooth-reshaping treatment
is sometimes essential, when there's a serious problem with the shape or color of the teeth,
and other times,
there's currently no functional problem at all,
and the treatment is done purely for esthetic reasons.
In other words, it's done simply to make the teeth look prettier.
Many people tend to call this kind of cosmetic veneer treatment
"celebrity veneers," assuming it must be something
celebrities get done a lot.
It's true that many celebrities do get veneer treatment.
Of course, not every celebrity does.
The problem is that a few celebrities seen on screen
have gotten veneers done a bit excessively,
so that the result looks all too obvious and artificial.
When you see it up close, this is the kind of impression it gives.
Is this really what beautiful teeth look like?
Just white, awkward, artificial-looking teeth—
you could never call that beautiful.
Let me walk through a case to show how celebrity veneers can be done beautifully instead.
These are ordinary teeth, the kind that would generally be considered
within a normal range in shape and color.
But if you look closely, the color is far too yellow,
and looking at the shape, the two front teeth are different sizes to begin with.
Compared to the front teeth, the lateral incisor beside them is on the larger side.
And even though the teeth are aligned, there's a subtle sense that they're just slightly less even than they should be.
To reduce that sense,
and to give the teeth a brighter, whiter yet still natural feel,
we decided to proceed with veneer treatment.
We carried out an analysis of the teeth above.
As I mentioned earlier, the two front teeth are different sizes.
The proportions are also considerably mismatched.
Since the narrower tooth is longer and the wider tooth is shorter,
the asymmetry looks even more pronounced.
The size of the lateral incisor beside the front tooth is also different.
With the goal of correcting this proportion and brightening the tooth color,
while giving the tooth shape a clean, open feel,
we decided to proceed with celebrity-style veneer treatment.
We built a treatment plan
aimed at improving the symmetry and proportion of the teeth.
Here, we used a method that involved almost no tooth reduction at all.
Because the size difference between the teeth was too great for completely no-prep treatment,
we decided to proceed with only extremely minimal reduction.
We also performed gum contouring to resolve the gum asymmetry.
We carried out the tooth reduction and gum contouring according to the plan.
If we had shown you this photo first,
it would probably be hard to tell whether any reduction had been done or whether these were simply natural teeth.
Only the minimal reduction needed for the size change was carried out,
and the reason treatment is possible with such minor reduction
is that we build a precise treatment plan before starting.
Including this process,
please see the link below for the features of veneer treatment at Dream Dental Clinic.
We proceed with fabricating the celebrity veneers in ceramic.
Rather than a same-day, computer-milled veneer that resembles a mass-produced, off-the-shelf product,
it isn't that kind of veneer at all—
only a premium, entirely hand-crafted veneer, made piece by piece,
can preserve the feel of a natural tooth
while still being fabricated beautifully.
The celebrity veneer treatment has been completed.
The change in tooth color is probably what stands out most at first glance.
Bright and white, yet
the translucent feel of the teeth is preserved.
As shown in the earlier photo,
instead of an overall opaque look,
we fully preserved a translucent feel at the tooth edges
and gave the teeth enough three-dimensional depth to keep a natural feel alive.
From teeth that had previously looked short and stubby,
they became teeth with a clean, well-proportioned look.
Even from different angles,
you can confirm that the natural feel of the teeth is preserved.
