All-Ceramic Crown Redo and No-Prep Veneers

When the front teeth protrude like rabbit teeth,

I first recommend orthodontic treatment.

However, if orthodontic treatment takes too long

and treatment needs to be finished quickly,

that creates a constraint.

In such cases, dental contouring is considered.

When dental contouring is used to make protruding or large teeth smaller,

a large amount of tooth reduction inevitably becomes necessary.

Detailed consultation about the amount of tooth reduction before treatment,

and about the issues that may arise after reduction, is essential,

and the resulting side effects also need to be discussed.

Dental contouring of the front teeth is divided into

two methods: all-ceramic crowns and veneers,

where an all-ceramic crown reduces the entire tooth

and caps it like putting on a hat,

while a veneer reduces only the front surface of the tooth

and bonds a thin ceramic plate on top.

Since a veneer involves less tooth reduction,

it has fewer side effects compared to an all-ceramic crown

and is more favorable in the long term.

If treatment is possible with the veneer method,

I would recommend dental contouring even for rabbit teeth,

but if that isn't possible,

orthodontic treatment is the better option.

The two front teeth have all-ceramic crowns.

Because of the rabbit-tooth-like shape,

all-ceramic crowns were done on the two teeth,

but as time passed the two teeth protruded again,

so the patient decided to have treatment done to even out the alignment

while also making the tooth shape and color look natural.

First, we need to make a diagnosis of the teeth.

We decided to do no-prep veneers on the other teeth besides the two front teeth.

Through the diagnostic process above, a wax model is created.

This way, we began the redo of the all-ceramic crowns on the two front teeth,

along with no-prep and minimal-prep veneer treatment on the other teeth.

Once the all-ceramic crowns were removed,

you can see that the teeth had truly been reduced a great deal.

It was to the point that root canal treatment might be needed,

so we carefully removed the crowns and proceeded with treatment.

We do minimal reduction on the canine,

take an impression of the teeth,

and proceed with veneer fabrication.

We make temporary teeth

and consult about the shape of the teeth.

The redo of the all-ceramic crowns,

along with the no-prep and minimal-prep veneer treatment, has been completed.

We treated the teeth to be bright yet natural.

We brought out the translucent feel of the teeth,

and designed them to harmonize healthily with the gums.

The photo above shows the state 3 years after treatment was completed.

With no-prep veneers,

if there are any issues with the ceramic design or fabrication method,

the likelihood of inflammation is high.

For the gums to stay healthy even after 3 years, as shown above,

the veneer fabrication technique has to be excellent.
