Features of No-Prep and Minimal-Prep Veneers

Treatment that beautifully changes the front teeth is called tooth reshaping.

Within tooth reshaping, as a way to minimize tooth reduction,

there's the veneer, which bonds ceramic only to the front of the tooth,

and the all-ceramic crown, which caps the entire tooth.

The all-ceramic crown

is a method used in specific situations, such as when the tooth is badly damaged, severely discolored, or has had root canal treatment due to severe decay,

but

sometimes it gets used excessively even when the real issue is just poor tooth alignment,

and in cases like that, the treatment process and the amount of reduction need to be discussed thoroughly and precisely with the patient.

No-prep veneers and minimal-prep veneers, which reduce very little,

have the following features.

1. Improving appearance with no-prep or minimal-prep veneers

Veneers improve the color, shape, and size of the teeth,

making the patient's smile more natural and beautiful.

They can resolve aesthetic issues such as imperfect teeth, wide gaps, and yellowed or dark teeth.

2. Dream Dental Clinic's own natural appearance

Veneers are very thin and translucent,

made of a biocompatible material that blends well with the surrounding teeth and gives a natural appearance.

In addition, veneers have a light-reflecting quality,

so they can have a sheen similar to a real tooth.

Making good use of this material to create a natural tooth color

3. Protecting the tooth

A no-prep front-tooth veneer improves appearance while preserving the tooth's original structure.

When a tooth is fractured or weakened by a structural abnormality,

or in cases of acid erosion and similar issues, without cutting or removing the tooth surface,

the smile can still be improved, giving it the advantage of protecting the tooth more securely.

4. Durability

With proper and careful maintenance, veneers can last a long time.

They are strong, highly durable, hold up well, and protect the tooth at the same time.

5. Fast treatment

Compared with other dental treatments, it can be completed in a relatively short time.

Generally, veneer treatment can be completed in two visits.

However, no-prep and minimal-prep veneers do come with a few conditions.

If these conditions are met,

we check through diagnosis whether no-prep veneers are possible

and proceed with treatment.

To improve the aesthetic result,

a minute, partial reduction is often needed,

and today we'll look at just such a case.

This patient's teeth were quite small.

The alignment was good,

with only a slight amount of irregularity.

There was a lot of staining between the teeth,

and slight inflammation in the gums.

The tooth color was normal, but the patient wanted it a bit brighter.

First, we measure the proportions between the teeth.

We take various approaches to work out

what proportion to change it to through the veneers.

For the front teeth, since they were relatively short,

they needed to be made longer,

and in this case we decided to lengthen them through gum reshaping.

As for the lateral incisor and canine next to the front tooth,

the tooth length itself needed to be extended.

Taking all this into account, we build the teeth in wax.

In this process,

for the areas where the wax comes out too thin,

we plan a minute amount of reduction.

Based on this wax-up precision diagnosis,

we carry out the minute tooth reduction.

If we showed you this photo first

and said that no-prep or minimal-prep veneers were done from this state,

even a dentist would find it hard to doubt,

that's how little was reduced.

Since the tooth's enamel was fully preserved,

the treatment was done without anesthesia,

and no temporary teeth were needed.

But just because a case doesn't require temporary teeth

doesn't mean we skip making them and proceed with treatment anyway.

Temporary teeth are, of course, "temporary,"

but they're also a way to preview the treatment result in advance.

We make temporary teeth and consult with the patient on the change in the shape and size of the teeth.

We proceed with fabricating the veneers in ceramic.

as much of a natural tooth's features as possible,

creating a result that's both natural and beautiful.

It's very important for the ceramic

to wrap around every fine detail of the tooth properly.

This is something a computer-made one-day method simply cannot match.

You can see that the very thin ceramic protects the tooth well.

This kind of detail

creates a subtle but important aesthetic difference,

showing the level of a truly high-quality minimal-prep veneer.

The no-prep and minimal-prep veneer treatment has been completed.

Looking at the detail of the teeth,

you can see natural translucency and a clear color tone.

The three-dimensionality of the tooth is a key point for bringing out as much of a natural feel as possible.

Unlike an awkward, opaque veneer

made entirely of a single flat color, on a completely different level,

this is a veneer where the detail is alive.

Because so little or none of the tooth is reduced like this,

putting detail into a thin ceramic veneer is a technically very difficult process.

Through no-prep and minimal-prep veneers,

you can see a change in the teeth that is both natural
