Treating Discolored Resin with Front-Tooth Veneers

The best material for treating decay between the front teeth

is resin.

Treatment is relatively simple, and the cost is relatively low.

Because it's easy to work with and reasonably close to tooth color,

it's a widely preferred material.

It has quite a few advantages,

but it also has a critical drawback for treating front teeth,

which is discoloration.

Over time, it discolors for various reasons.

It doesn't cause decay,

so it wouldn't be a big problem in a molar,

but in a front tooth, it causes an esthetic problem.

Since it usually turns dark,

if the resin was used to treat decay between the teeth,

the spaces between the teeth look dark and create an esthetic issue.

When this kind of resin discoloration happens frequently,

retreatment has to be repeated over and over,

and this can also cause repeated damage to the tooth,

so resolving both the esthetic problem and the repeated-treatment problem with front-tooth veneers

can be the better choice in the long run.

This patient had decay between her teeth treated with resin.

Over time it had discolored,

and the spaces between the teeth looked dark.

Since the shape of the teeth wasn't good either,

to address both the inconvenience of repeated resin treatment

and to improve the esthetics of the teeth,

we decided on front-tooth veneer treatment.

The areas treated with resin also needed treatment, but

since we were doing veneer treatment,

other esthetic aspects needed to be improved as well.

To achieve more beautiful teeth, we needed to plan

what changes to make through diagnosis.

We predicted the shape of the change

and carried out a precise wax-up diagnosis.

Through this process, we predict both the amount of tooth reduction and the result together.

Since the current teeth were fairly small,

we decided to proceed with veneer treatment while making the teeth larger.

According to the plan, after retreating the areas treated with resin,

we proceeded with the tooth reduction needed for the veneers.

We have to do our best to achieve the best possible result with only the minimum reduction.

Only the minimum reduction was done to remove the discoloration between the teeth.

We took this photo with the veneer placed on only halfway.

The goal of enlarging the tooth was well achieved.

In addition, an extremely thin ceramic was placed between the teeth

so it could properly cover the discolored areas between them.

The front-tooth veneer treatment was completed like this.

The shape of the teeth fully expresses a sense of depth and naturalness,

and you can see that the color of the teeth was also expressed naturally.

The translucency at the tip of the teeth was also expressed just like a natural tooth.
