Treatment that changes the shape and form of teeth is called dental contouring.

Methods of dental contouring include

the veneer, which reduces only the front surface of the tooth and bonds a thin ceramic plate

onto the front, and

the all-ceramic crown, which reduces the tooth all the way around

and caps it like putting on a hat —

these are the two methods.

Sometimes clinics advertise under other unique names besides these,

but no matter the name, it's still one of these two methods.

Don't be misled by clinic-specific treatment names. ^^

Because an all-ceramic crown involves a large amount of tooth reduction,

it's only done when truly necessary,

such as when root canal treatment has been done, decay is very severe, or the tooth is broken.

Root canal treatment can also cause tooth discoloration,

and in such cases, the ceramic has to be made thicker or a more opaque ceramic has to be used.

The problem is when both methods need to be used together.

Due to differences in ceramic translucency and thickness, and differences in tooth color,

matching the color with the veneer becomes quite tricky.

Because the shape, size, and color of the old all-ceramic crowns didn't match the natural teeth,

the patient came to Sinsa-dong Dream Dental Clinic for a redo.

Since only two teeth were protruding,

the patient wanted to resolve various aesthetic issues

while making the teeth beautiful.

Viewed from the side,

you can see that only the two front teeth are protruding.

We check the current condition of the teeth

and establish a treatment plan for what proportion to aim for.

This way, the entire amount of tooth reduction is decided during the wax-up process.

The problem is that in a situation like this, with teeth already protruding,

it's difficult to keep the tooth reduction minimal.

However, for the other teeth,

no-prep veneers are possible.

We remove the all-ceramic crowns.

The discoloration was so severe that whitening had already been done.

When discoloration is severe, no matter how much whitening is done,

there is a limit to how bright it can get.

Since the front teeth were in a protruding state,

a certain amount of reduction was needed for the veneer,

while for the other teeth, no-prep veneers were used.

We move into fabricating the veneers and all-ceramic crowns.

Bringing out the natural shape and three-dimensionality of the teeth is extremely important.

We give the tooth color a variety of expressions depending on the area,

bringing out the translucent feel at the tooth edge,

so as to fully express the feel of young, beautiful natural teeth.

We proceed with bonding the all-ceramic crowns and veneers this way.

The treatment has been completed.

In redoing the veneers and all-ceramic crown on the four teeth,

we brought the shape and color of the teeth as close as possible to the feel of natural teeth.

This case combined the all-ceramic crown redo, a veneer requiring reduction,

and no-prep veneer treatment all at once.

The protruding feel improved noticeably.

By matching the proportion and balance of the teeth,

and resolving the issue of the protruding tooth,

we brought out the natural shape, color, and translucency of the teeth all together.

The harmony with the gums is also good, showing a healthy gum shape.
