Among front-tooth reshaping procedures, when doing veneer treatment,

capturing the features of a natural tooth to make it beautiful is a very demanding task.

A natural tooth has a distinctively three-dimensional shape,

and varied color tones in each part of the tooth

need to blend together into a complex, harmonious look,

while staying bright and white yet keeping a sense of translucency alive.

Recently, with what's called the one-day method,

more and more Apgujeong veneer treatments are being finished in just a day or 2 to 3 days,

but most of them end up far from a natural tooth,

producing opaque, unnatural-looking veneers.

Since this is an aesthetic matter, opinions will differ,

but the process of making such unnatural-looking teeth is very simple.

The process of properly capturing the color and feel of a natural tooth,

on the other hand, is very complex and requires advanced skill and a great deal of time.

Case 1

The patient came in to improve every aspect of the front teeth: shape, color, and alignment.

There was some fracturing and wear on each tooth,

and while the alignment wasn't quite bad enough to call it crooked, it wasn't very even either,

leaving something to be desired aesthetically.

We planned to keep the amount of tooth reduction to a minimum for each tooth

and proceeded with the Apgujeong veneer treatment.

What matters most for a natural tooth feel

is the tooth's sense of translucency and clarity.

The teeth became even and well-aligned,

and after the Apgujeong veneer treatment, every tooth is bright and clear while keeping a sense of translucency alive.

Harmony with the gums is a very important part of this.

Some patients keep developing inflammation after veneer treatment,

and most of the time it's a problem with ineffective toothbrushing,

but occasionally there is actually a problem with the veneer's design.

Because of the shape of the gums,

in areas where the tooth was bound to look longer after veneer treatment,

we used yellow staining

to create an optical illusion that makes the tooth look shorter.

You can see that the texture and three-dimensionality of the tooth surface are still alive.

After the Apgujeong veneer treatment,

you can confirm the tooth's sense of translucency and its natural harmony with the gums.

Case 2

This kind of natural expression shows up well in retreatment cases too.

This is an old all-ceramic crown.

The whole tooth is a single, uniform color

and very opaque.

There's no three-dimensionality expressed at all,

and after a long time, the gum inflammation hadn't gone away.

We made the teeth more even,

brighter and whiter,

and expressed the translucency at the tooth tips that is the hallmark of youth.

Because the tooth itself now has three-dimensionality expressed in it,

the natural look becomes even stronger.

Through this kind of retreatment of an all-ceramic crown or veneer,

starting from an unnatural state,

the teeth became natural and beautiful.

Case 3

This is a natural tooth and an all-ceramic crown with clearly visible tooth translucency.

But there was a peg (undersized) tooth causing an aesthetic problem,

and since the front tooth was relatively too large,

the two didn't harmonize well.

While properly capturing the features of a young tooth,

we carried out Apgujeong veneer treatment to make it brighter and more beautiful,

while also carrying out retreatment of the all-ceramic crown at the same time.

The result is so natural

that it's hard to tell which tooth is the natural one

and which is the veneer.

What matters most, in particular, is the harmony between the veneer and the all-ceramic crown.

It's very important for two methods using different materials to come together in harmony.

You can see that the teeth have been expressed naturally and beautifully.
